Why Colleges Are An Independent Musician’s Goldmine

September 7th, 2008

Abstract: college credit

Most musicians, independent or major, understand that the
college market is one of their prime markets, if not their
leading market for radio airplay and media coverage.

In contrast, however, most musicians do not seem to take
complete advantage of this market and “milk it for all it is
worth,” so to speak.

As an example, artists send their CDs to college radio stations
and newspapers seeking radio airplay, feature interviews and/or
music reviews. Even if you get airplay or press coverage, it is,
at matchless, limited and short-lived.

However, since colleges also present the lowest rates for
affordable and consistent advertising, musicians should take
ongoing advantage of this market’s low-cost advertising rates
through its various available media outlets.

In fact, many (if not most) musicians can afford to place a
simple text line ad in a college newspaper that runs during the
entire Fall and Spring school semesters (to economize, be sure
to first select the college papers that publish weekly, as
opposed to the ones that publish daily. You can always “move up”
at a later time).

Doing so will keep your ad in front of college students,
whereas, many students may have missed your airplay or press
coverage.

Also, most college newspapers will also place your ad (at no
additional charge) on their college newspaper websites, which is
where many of the students read their school paper.

There’s no need to get into an expensive situation by running
large display ads that include your photo or CD cover (students
can see them when they visit your website, and eliminating the
photos and CD cover from your ad piques their interest and
causes them to visit your site).

At this point, the idea with the ad is to get the maximum
results for the least cost.

You can limit your ad size to three text lines that simply
consist of:

* Your band’s name

* Your band’s genre description

* Your website url

And, since college papers’ advertising sections tend to be
fairly spacious, there is usually no need to worry that your ad
will get “lost” among a glut of other ads (that is, unless a
thousand musicians read this particular article and select the
same college paper that you do). :-)

The great benefit of the college market is that:

* It is diversified (practically, any genre is accessible)

* It is a HUGE market (The University of Texas alone has
approximately 40,000 students during regular sessions)

* It is open-minded (meaning, it is ready and willing to give
you a chance, whereby, much of normal society is jaded, cynical
and doubting)

* One of the primary products college students spend their money
on consistently throughout the year is *MUSIC*

This is a perfect time (October) to get started with setting up
a regular advertising schedule with colleges, since students
have settled down to a regular session for a few weeks now.

Again, don’t simply stop or be cut short of earning a great
income from music sales all school year long by only going for
college radio airplay or media coverage.

Take advantage of both free media publicity coverage as well as
continuing sales through college media ads after the publicity
has long disappeared.

And, a peripheral benefit is that, by continuing your ads in the
school papers or on the school radio or television station, you
should also get some regular gig interest from various campus
organizations as well.

By the way.while you’re talking to college newspapers, be sure
to also check with the college radio and television stations to
learn what their ad rates are.

You may be very surprised to learn the positive sales results
that you could have already been getting through colleges for
some time by maximizing the potential of this market goldmine.

Tips on How to Survive College Life

September 3rd, 2008

Abstract: college degrees online
Tag:

Starting a new life, college life, can seem a bit strange and it
is important that you learn a few tips and tricks to be sure you
will survive and also enjoy college life. The first thing and
the most obvious is that money is going to be vital, so make
sure you pay your essentials before spending for enjoyment
during your college life.

The majority of students live in shared accommodations in their
college life. Because this may be the first time they share
space with non-family members, this is the time when college may
either become enjoyable or hellish. If you can develop a
boundary with your roomies, your success is guaranteed. Make
sure you have the time to study for your exams undisturbed and
then you can enjoy your new college life. Although you cannot
change people around you, as long as you clean up after
yourself, your life will be much easier.

In this new college life you will meet lots of new people, but
don’t let this affect your relationship with your family or
those back home. Remember that you had a life before college and
you will have one after it as well. Also, keeping the
relationships with your friends from outside the college life
can be a form of relaxation when your college life gets to be
too much.

There aren’t many rules that teach you how to settle into
college life but you have to give it a chance. Don’t rush back
home every time you run into some difficulties because then you
will find it harder to adapt in real life as well as in college
life. Also, the highest parts of college life happen on weekends,
so don’t miss them.

College life can be sometimes so exciting that you won’t
remember the most important things: to eat and sleep well and to
take care of yourself. You should enjoy college but don’t forget
to rest and concentrate on your studies and exams.

R U one of them students, who joined online course for fun?

August 28th, 2008

Abstract: federal direct loans
Tag:

I asked my friend who works for an online college. Why online degrees are becoming popular, even the optimum Institutions have started offering online education in the last few years. His answer was shocking and I could not believe what he said. He replied, “People love Internet and that’s why they spend a lot of time searching, reading, listening, chatting or writing on it. To make excuses to themselves or to their social surroundings they want to cement their newfound friendship with something tangible.

Most students are still skeptical about online degrees but it gives them an excuse to be online whenever they want. If you hear the questions they ask you will be surprised. Most of them are just worried about spending money and ask again and again, “is it worth it” in different ways.

The result is they want to be online; they want everyone else to believe that they are doing something important and not just wasting time on it. That’s why they take admission but instead of working hard and finishing course quickly, they are taking much longer then necessary.

It is acceptable anyway, because it makes them happy, the nonpareil thing is, they don’t have to finish the course in a set period of time, in most cases. To tell you the truth they do not expect a lot at the end from an online degree. For some strange reasons they are sure that they will get a degree anyway, which might not be the case for some students. First and foremost in their mind is the fact that they are doing something important in the eyes of others. If they actually understand the preponderance and worth of online degree they would be shocked with stunning clarity. They will work so hard that they will start to loose hair and leave everything else for the sake of their degree.

They start the course with enthusiasm and promises but after few weeks when the going gets though the promises evaporate. They feel that they are stuck and continue with their other online activities and do not even log in for weeks. The knowledge that they do not have to finish the course in a set time-period is doing all the damage. Soon it will change, it has to, and students will be required to finish the online degrees within a set period of time”.

His answer was really surprising for me and I left him with a regret that I shouldn’t have asked him that question. There are so many different Universities and colleges and you can find out increased on http://www.friends4study.com For some strange reasons I feel that he was telling me the truth about most students. I hope you don’t mind me asking, are you one of them?

Survival of the Fittest: Marketing Strategies and Distance Learning

August 21st, 2008

Abstract: college football ticket
Tag:

Everything in the world today needs to be marketed well; even education, hence marketing strategies and distance learning go hand in hand. In order to create a lasting impact on the minds of the target audience, educational institutions offering distance learning programs need to be a cut above the rest. Education is a service and any service needs to be marketed well to be attractive to the consumer, who in this case is a student.

How Technology has Affected Education

It’s a changing world, and technology has become the backbone of any distance education program. Marketing strategies and distance learning are symbiotic, since education is essentially a service and deals with human beings. Hence student enrollment and retention are very critical aspects for a college to consider. The internet is rife with dotcoms looking to make quick profits, which are posing a serious threat to the higher serious academic institutions looking at providing quality educational experience to its students. Many universities have not only started offering online versions of their on-campus programs, but are also working on creating a virtual campus for its online students. Today the student is out shopping for courses and institutions; he or she is tech savvy and enrolling in a particular course is just a click away for him or her.

Weapon of Choice - Modes of Marketing

It is a cluttered world out there, and to be noticed, any educational institution will need to break through. A lot of colleges today are adopting different marketing strategies and distance learning has become an especially volatile market. Many colleges are using web based ads and promotions aggressively for marketing their courses; the internet being a relatively cheaper advertising medium, has taken over the other traditional mediums like print and TV. Pop-up ads, email and banners are, however, headly mass marketing tools and are largely inenergetic. What education needs right now is relationship marketing.

Relationship marketing is essentially establishing, developing and criticaltaining successful long term relationships with students. Education being a service cannot adopt marketing strategies meant for a manufactured product. Marketing educational services is extra about building trust and commitment, further about making students loyal alumnus. Marketing strategies and distance learning are correlated because they deal with the creation of a product that cannot be copied by anyone else, and with creating an atmosphere of nurture for students right from the enquiry stage. For the student, any educational institution is attractive if it has the right mix of pricing, academic experience, and credibility. If a college is able to provide services beyond these three parameters, it has earned the loyalties of any student enrolled with it.
